If you're still deep in the jungles of Pandora and not looking to get out anytime soon, then Gearbox Software have just made it even easier to stay. Speaking at their panel at PAX East this weekend, the Borderlands 2 developers revealed a new Vault Hunter, the date for the level cap increase and a new game mode for Borderlands fans to sink their teeth into soon.
First up, the eagerly anticipated level cap increase. Players have been asking for this for months now, and you’ll be glad to hear that Gearbox intends on releasing he update soon. In just over a week in fact, with the level cap increase coming on April 2nd. The cap increase will give players 11 new levels to burn through, capping at a new level of 61. In addition to this Gearbox will be introducing a new level of weapon rarity, Pearlescent, and a new Ultimate Vault Hunter’s Mode, which is made available after True Vault Hunter Mode and has all enemies scaling to the party’s level.
This update will be free to all Season Pass holders and will cost everyone else around $5 (So give or take R45). What isn’t included in the Season Pass however is Borderlands 2′s new character, Krieg. Krieg will become the sixth playable character in Borderlands 2, but just like the others he’s his own brand of insane and awesome bundled into one. For starters, Krieg is a Psycho, similar to the countless others that you mow down during Borderlands’ campaign. His character has a specific focus on taking damage, with one skill tree rewarding players for taking huge amounts of it.
The other two skill trees emphasise dealing damage and elemental damage, which includes setting yourself on fire when dealing fire damage to foes. Krieg sounds like the perfect character for those looking to just run straight into the thick of things, with his melee action skill, Blood Axe Rampage, regenerating portions of his health with every hit.
Gearbox announced that Krieg will be made available for purchase sometime in May, also teasing that the final piece of DLC included in the Season Pass will be released in June. Krieg will set you back $9.99 of you choose to add him to your party, which seems a tad much of you ask me. Regardless, it’s great to see Gearbox support Borderlands 2 so strongly after launch. It just makes me want to keep on returning.
