LotteryTicket App NOW available for US Mega Millions
Jul 1st 2013, 04:19, by simjohn

The automatic lottery ticket checker for iOS devices is now available for US Mega Millions!

LotteryTicket is a simple and easy to use app -simply key in your ticket number into the app and choose the draw date.

This app informs users of their personal lottery outcomes through automatic alerts in order to reduce the hassles involved while checking against the draw results.

This will be useful for people who tend to forget about checking their Mega Millions results or who find it troublesome to check their numbers against the results every time.

In addition, the app also offers premium features like the 'Number Predictor' & 'Ticket Analyzer'. The Number Predictor is the app's version of 'Quick Pick' & provides the system's picks for the next draw. It uses historical data to pick the numbers that have the highest probability of winning. The Ticket Analyzer allows users to check how many times their favorite or lucky numbers have won in the past in order to make the process of picking lottery numbers easier.

Go to the App Store and download LotteryTicket for FREE.

Under the Microscope

This is it. This is the moment that everyone has been waiting for. As it was apparent that the Mavs weren't going to make the first time in over a decade, everyone circled July 1st on their calendar. They waited to see if the Mavs could really make progress on improving their team.

Some are waiting to say "I told you so" and that dismantling the championship team was a mistake. Over the weekend, I've looked over that roster again and the results and I still stand by my belief that that captured lightning in a bottle and Dirk Nowitzki had one of the greatest playoff runs the league has ever seen. As the Miami Heat celebrate their second championship, Dirk and those Mavs will know that they "got 'em."

History may or may not remember the 2011 Mavs for what they did and mainly remember what the Heat didn't do, but there's no way to erase the fact that Nowitzki was the baddest man on a basketball court that summer.

Last season was a disappointing one as the Mavs wandered through the wilderness of mediocrity. Nowitzki's injury derailed the season from the get-go. Despite that, the Mavs were able to find a way to stay playoff relevant until the final week of the season. That shows that Dirk and a cast of characters can be a playoff team, but the front office must now make their move and secure more reliable weapons for their star. "We're trying to accumulate high quality, high character, high energy, high motor, skilled players to put around Dirk Nowitzki," Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said after the draft. "He's still one of the greatest players in the game and we've got to enhance his ability to do what he does.

"We've got to enhance the opportunity to keep him playing as long as possible because he loves to play and he's great. To do that effectively, we've got to get the best guys possible around him. That's a priority and it'll continue to be one this summer."

Now is the time. Let's look at everything under the free agency microscope.

Fight for Dwight:

It's been reported through various sources that the Mavs will get the second-to-last meeting with Howard on Tuesday. The Lakers will be the team that gets the last word with Howard. First, it's been stunning how aggressive the Lakers have come across with their pitch. Billboards, photo shopped images on buildings, full-page spreads in newspapers. When did the Lakers get to this stage where they're desperate?

It still feels like a three-team race between Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas. Reports seem to indicate that Howard will land in Texas, making it a two-team race. Mark Cuban, Donnie Nelson, Rick Carlisle and Dirk Nowitzki are expected to be the key components in the pitch to the prized free agent.

Expect them to show Howard the vision that he will be the man in Dallas. Nowitzki can explain that he will defer whenever he needs to. If things are going rough, Nowitzki can be the one to take the media spotlight. We already know that Cuban will do that and has done that.

Negative selling can also happen. If he's going to Houston, he'll once again play in the shadows of big men of the past. Houston would have Hakeem Olajuowon and Yao Ming as the shadows. In Dallas, Howard really doesn't have anyone to go up against. He will clearly be the man in that situation as well.

While history suggests this is a bad idea, the Mavs can sell Howard on being the architect for the Mavs in 2014. With more cap space, they'll be able to reload the roster and pick players that Howard likes. This probably sounds great to Howard, but players aren't always the greatest evaluators when it comes to building a roster.

The Mavs can also suggest that Howard might be seen as a coach killer again with McHale only having an option on his deal in 2014. That would, once again, paint him as a coach killer. With Rick Carlisle firmly under contract and a proven championship coach, the Mavs will sell Howard on being able to work a system that caters to him.

Mark Cuban will be the key to this pitch. He wasn't present last summer for the pitch to Deron Williams and that certainly hurt their chances. Cuban is a star, even as an owner. Howard will naturally be attracted to a power player like Cuban. The owner didn't make his money by blind luck. He's a salesman and a businessman. He'll know his audience and cater his sales pitch to capture his attention to the fullest.

20/20 vision shows that LeBron James clearly left to win. Deron Williams stayed under the illusion of winning, but mainly stayed for the money. Dwight Howard has said that he's going into this period with an open mind and wants to win.

Dallas can sell him on being a playoff team immediately. They'll have to make him believe that the two-year plan can work and that he's a powerful piece to that puzzle. If he wants to be the man, Dallas is clearly the place to do it. It's not a given that James Harden can hand the reigns over to Howard. It's not even a given that Harden can co-exist with Howard. Oklahoma City nor Houston never had a dominant big man to work with while Harden has been in the mix, so we have no idea how Harden will work in that scenario.

Houston might be considered the favorite, but a lot of things can change within the next few days. Cuban is in a position that he likes. He's openly said that he doesn't want to be the first person to pitch; he wants to be one of the last.

Time will tell if his belief pays off.

Beantown Rumor:

Rumors were eventually confirmed over the weekend that the Mavs have kicked the tires on trying to trade for Rajon Rondo, the 27-year-old point guard. With the Celtics making their blockbuster trade on draft night with Brooklyn, it appears that they're in rebuilding mode. Rondo, naturally, becomes the next piece that could easily move.

The Mavs have always fed off the philosophy of being opportunistic and this is a situation that follows that to the T. That said, it's still incredibly unlikely that a deal happens. The problem is that Dallas doesn't have the assets to make a deal work. Boston has asked for Dirk Nowitzki in exchange for Rondo. That will immediately end the first phase of the negotiation as Dallas will not deal him. Boston's intentions sound mixed if they want Nowitzki only to rebuild. The purpose of that would be to use him as a trade chip for a contender who wants to give Boston buckets of picks or other assets.

Dallas simply can't pursue Rondo while they're chasing Howard. If Boston unloads a junk contract or two with Rondo and takes all of Dallas' trade assets, the Mavs won't have the max room to offer to Howard. If they don't have that space, there is no point in making the offer to Howard. They can say they WILL pursue Rondo, but they need Howard to commit first before they can truly pursue that.

If Howard decides to go elsewhere, the Mavs can then pursue Rondo with more aggression. As of right now, it still looks unlikely that Rondo will be a Mav. The chances could change once the Howard situation is taken care of but my advice would be to not hold your breath.

What about them?

Shawn Marion's silence indicates that he will not exercise his early termination option. That means that the versatile forward will be locked in to the final year of his deal worth $9.3 million. There were hopes and actual discussions of restructuring Marion's deal once he opted out of the deal, but those never really materialized.

There's a line of thinking that suggests that Marion can now be traded as the Mavs still need to create cap space to make the max offer to Howard. That is possible, but it's also possible that the Mavs may need to hold on to Marion if they do actually want to pursue Rondo, with Howard or not.

If Marion is the one who stays in the short term, Vince Carter is the man who will be shipped off. Carter is slated to make just under $3.2 million this coming season. Not taking into account the non guaranteed deals for Bernard James and Josh Akognon, they would be roughly $2.73 million short of a max deal for Howard. The Mavs could trade Carter away for "nothing" and that would create the space they need. The Mavs have been in communication with Carter through the process and everyone is well-aware of what could happen.

Yahoo! Sports reported that the Mavs did not extend a qualifying offer to Darren Collison, making him a restricted free agent. This is expected to happen for Roddy Beaubois, as well. These moves don't mean that they won't be back, but the Mavs want to create space as quickly as possible and these moves, or actual non-moves, help facilitate that.

The Oregonian reported that the Blazers will meet with Chris Kaman’s people as free agency begins. Portland was interested in the big man last year after they lost out on Roy Hibbert. Kaman eventually picked the Mavs and we saw how that turned out. O.J. Mayo appears to be in high demand as will likely meet with Minnesota, Utah, Milwaukee and others as free agency begins.

The Mavs will renounce rights of the players if it is necessary to reduce spots to cap holds of $490,180. They might hold on to certain players in order to use them as sign-and-trade pieces. Now certain teams won't be able to take players in via sign-and-trade. A team like the Lakers or the Knicks, Nets and etc wouldn't be able to obtain the players the Mavs have to offer via sign-and-trade due to rules in the CBA.

If the Mavs do renounce rights, I wouldn't expect Brandan Wright to be one that is let go. The Mavs will want to wait out the process with their bigger priorities and hope that Wright is still available. They would be able to go over the cap to sign Wright as they have his Early Bird Rights, which would allow the Mavs to exceed the cap to sign him to a multi-year contract up to the 104.5 percent of the average NBA salary from last season, is $884,293. Anything in the in the range to what Ian Mahinmi got on the open market last year, $16 million for four years, will likely be favorable for the Mavs.

Wild Cards by Association:

Both Nick Calathes and Gal Mekel have been linked to the Mavs. Calathes was the second-round draft pick from four years ago who arrived in Dallas last week for some visits with the team. It appears he finally feel the time is right to see if he can make it in the NBA.

At the very least, I would suspect he will travel with the Mavs to Vegas for the Summer League. If the Mavs don't feel he will be a piece for the future, they've said they will do what they can to send Calathes to a team where he can have an opportunity.

ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported that the Mavs have been interested in Gal Mekel. He was named MVP in Israel for the 2012-13 season after helping claim the Israeli Super League championship. It’s his second MVP trophy in four pro seasons in Israel. The Mavs were very quiet about Mekel after the draft, likely because he is a target that can be signed as a free agent. Whether he is signed to minimum deal or a make-good deal, he will have to fight for a spot if he is actually a part of the plans for the Mavs.

Linked In:

The Mavs have essentially been linked to every free agent under the sun as free agency has now begun. Andrew Bynum, Andre Iguodala, Monta Ellis, Brandon Jennings, Al Jefferson, Josh Smith, the Mavs have been linked to them all. That shouldn't be a surprise as the Mavs have cap space and it's still possible that they won't get Dwight Howard.

If the Mavs do strike out on Dwight Howard, I expect the Mavs to be very cautious with their approach to the remaining crop. There is a concern or fear that the Mavs might making a Pistons mistake of the past where Detroit overpaid for mediocre talent such as Ben Gordon or Charlie Villanueva. I don't expect the Mavs to make those kinds of moves. I also don't expect them to make moves like last summer where they sign guys to one-year deals. They will still be selective with how they spend their money, though.

If they like guys like Ellis, Jennings or Smith, they won't pay them the money they're hoping to make. They'll start to get interested if it plays out as it did last summer for O.J. Mayo. The market started to dry up for the guard and the Mavs got him at a value price. Clearly, the value price wouldn't be that low for the players listed above, but they would be open if the value is right.

One person who isn't a big free agent who could see extreme value? Keep an eye on Jose Calderon. The point guard crop of free agents is relatively healthy and Calderon could easily be a point guard who slips through the cracks.

Laying in the Weeds

Signing free agents is one way to clearly improve your team. Brooklyn and Boston are showing that trading is another way to do so. As it was mentioned earlier, the Mavs could pursue Rajon Rondo as a target. Marcin Gortat, the center out of Phoenix is another name to keep track of. If the Rockets are successful at acquiring Dwight Howard, the Mavs could easily pursue Omer Asik as their new big man.

Another name to keep an eye on is Greivis Vasquez. With the Hornets acquiring Jrue Holliday on draft night, there is a significant log jam at the guard position. Eric Gordon is likely harder to dispose of, and New Orleans can get more in return for Vasquez.  The same verse but different song could be used when it comes to Tyreke Evans. He is restricted and the Mavs have said they don't plan on pursuing restricted free agents, but his availability might be even more open now due to the Kings drafting Ben McLemore.

There is a beauty to the trade market. You just never know who is really available until you go down the rabbit hole. The names listed above are fairly educated guess, but there's just an entire spectrum of players that may become available based on goings on of the draft, the CBA punishing teams more or the willingness to prepare for the loaded 2014 draft.

The waiting (at least the waiting to figure out real targets) is officially over. The fuzzy puzzle will now become clear. Enjoy the ride.

The Koalition: 13 Gaming Franchises Influenced By Hip-Hop

Jul 1st 2013, 01:28, by Mr. Kennedy

If you have been a frequent visitor to TheKoalition.com then you will know by now that we cover both video games and Hip-Hop music. Therefore, some of the team were rather amused when we found out earlier this month that Kanye West had both inspired and took centre stage of a JRPG.

Kanye Quest 3030 holds the Chi-town rapper/producer up as the protagonist of the game which was created by Phenix, using RPG Maker. Kanye has no affiliation, nor has he endorsed the title.

kanye quest pic

Yeezy isn't the only rapper to appear in the game. Artists such as Nicki Minaj, Notorious B.I.G, Dr. Dre, 2Pac and LL Cool J and many more all make appearances as "Hip-Hop clones"...oh, and Lil B is there too. All the artists in question also have their music featured in the game, in some form of fashion.

Therefore, myself and our Editor-in-Chief Richard Bailey Jr. have both compiled a list of the top 13 video game franchises which have been influenced by Hip-Hop music.

13. PaRappa The Rapper Series (1996 - 2002)

parappa the rapper kanye

When Sony Computer Entertainment first published this rhythm game way back in 1996, they had successfully blurred the lines between hip-hop and video games.

While the popular anime character enjoyed a great deal of success in the Japanese market, the series succeeded in gaining even more praise once it finally hit US retailers in 1997. While these games don't specifically use any popular Hip-Hop music from this time frame, they do deserve to be mentioned just from the standpoint of their historical importance in both Hip-Hop and rhythm game circles.

12. The Need For Speed Series

"Need For Speed: Underground" (2003) | "Need For Speed: Underground 2" (2004) | "Need For Speed: Most Wanted" (2005)

need for speed underground kanye

Before Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul gears up for his role in The Need For Speed film next year, it's worth acknowledging all the Hip-Hop tunes that were part of the racing game series so far. Need For Speed: Underground featured LA native rappers like Nate Dogg on the track "Keep It Comin" and Dilated Peoples with "Who's Who".

Need For Speed: Underground 2 took things a step further by including Snoop Dogg on "Riders On The Storm" and Pimp My Ride host Xzibit on "LAX". Last but certainly not least, the 2005 release of Need For Speed: Most Wanted featured the likes of Lupe Fiasco on the track "Tilted" and The Roots on "Tao Of The Machine". While these games all had soundtracks full of diverse artists from different musical genres, it's hard to ignore the hip-hop acts that were also a part of these compilations.

11. The Tony Hawk Titles

"Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3" (2001) | "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4" (2002) | "Tony Hawk's Underground" (2003) | "Tony Hawk's Underground 2" (2004)

tony hawk underground kanye

The Tony Hawk games have not only endured a great run throughout most of the early 2000's, but they have also featured some of the catchiest tunes all the way through. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 had work from notable artists like House of Pain on "I'm A Swing It", Xzibit on "Paparazzi", and KRS-One with "Hush". However, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 brought out it's fair share of Hip-Hop iconic acts the likes of Run D.M.C. on "My Adidas" and N.W.A. on "Express Yourself".

The Tony Hawk Underground games dabbled in three different genres of music including Punk, Hip-Hop, and Rock. Tony Hawk Underground featured rap icon Nas on "The World Is Yours" while the sequel had Pete Rock and CL Smooth on the track "Soul Brother #1".

10. True Crime: Streets of LA (2003)

true crime streets of la kanye

After being inspired by the Grand Theft Auto series, Activision took it upon themselves to create their own version of a sandbox, third-person shooter by the name of True Crime: Streets of LA.

In addition to offering a great good cop/bad cop storyline, they also gave gamers several memorable tunes as they cruised through the streets of LA. The Westside Connection's "Terrorist Threats" and Snoop Dogg's "Dance With Me" are just a few reasons why this soundtrack went on to win a 2004 Billboard Music award for best soundtrack in a video game.

9. Sleeping Dogs (2012)

sleeping dogs hip-hop gaming franchise kanye

After being acquired by Square Enix, True Crime: Hong Kong ended up being re-branded as Sleeping Dogs. In the tradition of most sandbox video games, United Front Games created several accessible radio stations in the game to provide all types of entertainment to players.

The Hip-Hop station referred to as "REAL FM" featured the likes of Jadakiss with "Kiss Of Death" and J Dilla and Common on "E=MC2". While some of these tracks were dated, there is no doubt that some of these songs remain classics to most Hip-Hop fans.

8. NBA 2k Series (1999 - Present)

NBA_2K13_Box_art

The infamous 2k Sports basketball series of video games is no stranger to Hip-Hop music. Every annual release comes packed with a soundtrack full of classics tracks from the genre.

When Jay-Z decided to executive produce NBA 2K13 last year, he made sure that a majority of the songs on the track-list where from his own personal choosing. As a result, we heard classics like Eric B. and Rakim's "I Ain't No Joke" and Kanye West's memorable "Amazing" song. Several of these songs were also presented in music video form and ending up creating an interesting dynamic never before seen in a basketball video game.

7. Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure (2006)

getting up kanye

One aspect of Hip-Hop which usually gets overlooked by the masses actually got a tonne of attention in this title - graffiti. The main character from Getting Up was a graffiti artist called Trane (voiced by Talib Kweli) who used his tagging skills as a way to rebel against a government who stifles the peoples freedom of expression.

It was somewhat of an open-world game which featured lots of fighting and lots of graffiti.

The direction for the soundtrack could have only headed one way - Hip-Hop music. And plenty of it. Talib Kweli recorded the title track for the game alongside Rakim. Other prominent artists such as The Notorious B.I.G, Fort Minor, Pharoahe Monch, Mobb Deep and Roots Manuva all featured within the soundtrack. One of the gems on this soundtrack came from underground MC PackFM with his track aptly titled "Click, Clack and Spray".

6. The Saints Row Series

"Saints Row 1" (2006) | "Saints Row 2" (2008) | "Saints Row 3" (2011)

saints row 3 kanye

With Saints Row 4 poised to hit retailers in August, we felt it necessary to acknowledge some of the hip-hop influences featured throughout the other entries in the series. The first installment in the series offered up music contributions by Black Sheep, Joe Budden, and MC Lyte.

Big Pun and Fat Joe's "Twinz" and Lloyd Banks and 50 Cent's "Hands Up" were just a few of the songs off of the Saints Row 2 soundtrack. 2011's release of Saints Row 3 featured Tyler The Creator's "Yonkers" and Mos Def's "Quiet Dog" just to name a few. Given that Dub-step is featured in Saints Row 4, it will be interesting to see what the soundtrack ends up looking like once the game finally hits stores.

5. Scarface: The World Is Yours (2006)

The_World_is_Yours kanye

This game had fans of the movie excited at the prospect of changing the course of events in the life Tony Montana and seeing what would happen if Tony never died in that infamous shoot-out. The game was an open-world sandbox game and had the GTA-style radio stations.

Set in the 80's, Scarface: The World Is Yours features classic 80's Hip-Hop in the form of Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, Run-D.M.C, Kurtis Blow, Public Enemy and LL Cool J. Strangely enough, they also had some of the current artists on there too with both D12 and Cypress Hill being featured in the game soundtrack.

4. The 50 Cent Games

"Bulletproof" (2005) | "Blood On The Sand" (2009)

bulletproof kanye

Fiddy got his very own video game treatment 8 years ago with Bulletproof. The story was based on his infamous tale of getting shot 9 times. The game depicts 50 and the rest of the G-Unit crew on a mission to get revenge on the shooters. The game didn't go down well. However, the game boasted an impressive soundtrack which was expectantly dominated by G-Unit. Tracks such as "Simply The Best", "Pimpin Pt. 2", "I Run NY" were some of the standouts.

Even though "Bulletproof" wasn't well received, there was a sequel made in 2009. Blood On The Sand was the better of the two games and they stuck to the formula when it came to the soundtrack - more 50 Cent. Some of the songs featured in "Blood On The Sand" were tracks such as "It's OK", "Southside Nigga", "Hands On The Steel" and "Green Light".

3. Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style (1999)

wu tang cover kanye

Also known as "Taste The Pain", this Wu-Tang Clan-centric video game was a four player fighting game (remember the multi-tap?) which was released in 1999 by Activision. The members of the Wu-Tang Clan were the playable characters and The RZA took responsibility for the in-game music.

Some of the notable tracks come from acts including close Wu-Tang affiliate La The Darkman with his track "Wu World Order" alongside RZA; Masta Killa with "Shaolin Temple" and U-God's track with Leatha Face, Inspectah Deck and Method Man titled "Rumble".

2. The Grand Theft Auto Series

"GTA III" (2001) | "GTA: Vice City" (2002) | "GTA: San Andreas" (2004) | "GTA IV" (2008)

gta iv kanye

Although the initial GTA titles had Hip-Hop music within the game, it was produced in-house by Rockstar and there were only 3 tracks. By the time GTA III came around, it started to grow. Even though it was underground artists, they had their own dedicated radio station - "Game Radio FM". This station featured the likes of Royce Da 5'9", Nature and Black Rob.

By 2002, Rockstar stepped up the Hip-Hop musical presence in Vice City. With the game being set in the 80's, Mr. Magic was the DJ on the "Wildstyle Pirate Radio" station. Artists such as Afrika Bambaataa and The Soulsonic Force, 2 Live Crew, Whodini and Davy DMX all appeared on the station.

San Andreas is where the Hip-Hop presence was really at it's fullest in the GTA series. Not only did they now have two Hip-Hop radio stations ("Radio Los Santos" and "Playback FM") but they also had a graffiti game mode. Based on the early 90's wave of LA gangsta-rap, San Andreas had a tonne of artists which ushered in that genre. Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg were the main feature on Julio G's "Radio Los Santos" with their classic hits such as "Nuthin' But A "G" Thang", "Fuck Wit Dre Day" and "Deep Cover". The D.O.C, Ice Cube, 2Pac and Cypress Hill were also on the station. "Playback FM" was basically an east coast Hip-Hop station with all the usual suspects of Big Daddy Kane, Eric B. & Rakim, Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock, Brand Nubian and The Ultramagnetic MCs. It doesn't stop there for San Andreas and Hip-Hop. A few LA rappers done voice-over work for Rockstar. The main character, CJ, was voiced by Young Maylay. CJ's homie, Ryder, was voiced by Compton's Most Wanted legend MC Eiht, Madd Dogg was performed by Ice-T and the side character known as "B-Dup" was voiced by The Game.

Rockstar carried the volume of Hip-Hop over from San Andreas to GTA IV in 2008 with two more Hip-Hop radio stations - "The Classics 104.1" and "The Beat 102.7". DJ Premier took the role of the DJ on "The Classics" and featured artists from the late 80's-to-early 90's including Jeru The Damaja, MC Lyte, Group Home and Audio Two. "The Beat" was hosted by not 1 DJ but two - Mister Cee and DJ Green Lantern. This station had a tonne of current artists on the station. From Nas to The L.O.X to Kanye West, "The Beat" is basically the Hot97 of GTA IV.

When EA Sports BIG first emerged onto the scene way back in 2000, they wowed sports games fans with the release of their popular Def Jam series of wrestling games. These Hip-Hop inspired fighting games featured some of the prominent hip-hop artists of that time including Snoop Dogg, DMX, Ghostface Killah, Ludacris, Redman, and Method Man. Popular anthems like DMX's "Party Up" and Method Man's "Bring The Pain" where just prime examples of the type of songs that graced the Def Jam Vendetta soundtrack.

With the release of Def Jam: Icon back in February of 2007, EA tried to evolve the series to coincide with the new Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles. While the game went on to garner mixed results from both critics and fans alike, the soundtrack proved memorable thanks in part to popular songs like M.O.P's "Ante Up" and Nas and P. Diddy's "Hate Me Now" anthem.

Late in October of 2010, Konami decided to do a Def Jam game of their own where players had the ability to test their lyrical skills over some of the most popular songs throughout the modern Hip-Hop era. While Def Jam Rapstar concept deviated from the fighting game concept started by EA Sports BIG, it did feature several notable tunes that fans both appreciated and did their best to perform over. The Notorious B.I.G's "Juicy" and Outkast's "So Fresh, So Clean" are just a few examples of the jam-packed soundtrack list available for this game.

There we have it. 13 video game franchises which Hip-Hop has influenced in one way or another. Albeit; playable characters, themes, story-lines, soundtracks or even the titles themselves, Hip-Hop has had an influence on video games. Judging, by the looks of the new Kanye West game, that influence is not going to end any time soon.

Have you played the games in our list? Do you have any other games in mind that should have made the list? Let us know about it in the comments section below.

SGC Woo!

ScrewAttack put together an impressive, community-driven gaming convention in 2009 and 2010. I had been a previous participant in the ScrewAttack community—a g1 if you will—but I wasn't able to attend either of the previous conventions.  I had always intended to; but like most of my intentions, I waited until it was too late, even though I live in the same area as the ScrewAttack's HQ. ScrewAttack announced on an episode of Sidescrollers that there wouldn't be another SGC due to high costs, much to the devastation of g1s who had previously attended or were in a similar position to me. Two years had passed, and I visited the site less and less due to unrelated reasons; however, ScrewAttack announced in 2012 a Kickstarter for their beloved SGC, which caught my and the other g1's attention. ScrewAttack managed to reach their Kickstarter goal, overshooting it by about $20,000, and I no longer had an excuse barring death to not attend.

SGC is actually the first gaming convention in which I've ever attended, let alone the first time I ever participated in the gaming press publicly since joining The Koalition team, so I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from SGC—cliché as that sounds—beyond what I had seen from uploaded footage of previous years. The first thing I saw was a giant banner complete with all of the classic video game characters we all know and love. Directly next to it was a banner with the names of all the Kickstarter contributors. A year had passed, so it was understandable that I had forgotten that I too contributed. I remember donating what I could at the time, which seemed like an insignificant amount back then; however, ScrewAttack thanked everybody who contributed, regardless of amount, and I appreciated the sentimentality. I had never felt more proud of my third-grade cursive signature.

We made our way upstairs on the first day for registration. I'll always have some sentimental value for SGC from the moment I received my first press badge alone, which I had stupidly written my first and last name rather than my name and organization—oh well. The first event scheduled had been delayed by an hour; however, the community didn't seem to mind. I had overheard community members ecstatic for getting to meet each other, some for the first time and others like old friends. Others were gathered around in circles playing probably Animal Crossing on their 3DS—it is a gaming convention after all, and what better way to kill downtime than with video games.

Eventually we gathered around the main three rooms of SGC, where ScrewAttack's Director of Awesome, Angel, would set the tone. Angel stol…I mean, he totally came up with a hand gesture for SGC after consulting with some g1s, which he had us all memorize, promising that he would be testing this throughout the week. I was never around for any of his tests; however, the gesture had just the right amount of cheese that I proudly would have. The Director's energy was infectious, and I even remember The Koalition's own David Jagneaux turning to me and saying, "Well, now I'm excited!" Now, the convention is just beginning...

Tune in for part 2 of my experience at SGC 2013!
