While there was a lot of arguments over the Metal Gear Rising spin-off that recently released, featuring the raging cyborg Raiden, there’s a general consensus among people who’ve played it that, well, it's actually a pretty good game. While we’re yet to give our verdict, a lot of reviewers around the world are enjoying Rising for what it is, which has prompted Kojima to say that future Metal Gear spin-offs are a very strong possibility.

Speaking to IGN, Hideo Kojima explained just how successful Metal Gear Rising has been.

“Initially we thought this spin-off with Metal Gear Rising was kind of an exception; it was a new thing for us – but that said, it went remarkably well, and working with Platinum Games we were able to achieve a sort of synergy where the final product was greater than the sum of its parts."

When asked about moving development of Metal Gear titles over to Western developers, like Capcom did with DmC Devil May Cry, Kojima said he will always keep an open mind about where Metal Gear games are developed.

"You know honestly it's not a matter of choosing a developer in Japan or in the West. It's not even an East versus West kind of thing. It's just finding somebody who can really understand the world and setting of Metal Gear […] You need to choose somebody who would understand the subtle nuances of the cultural aspects of the franchise. If we could find somebody who could understand that, who could handle it well, then that's definitely a possibility."

Now before you through your arms up in protest over a Metal Gear Solid title being developed by Western studios, this principle seems to only apply to spin-off titles, where there is more uncharted ground to be explored, allowing different views and development styles. Don’t worry, The Solid part of Metal Gear seems to be staying with Kojima,
