The Revolutionary Leap Controller Will Release Soon

How often do we see those products in those incredible proofs of concept videos actually go into production. Well when you’re talking about a small company instead of, say, Apple, then not so often. Thankfully, the rather incredible Leap Controller did go into production after wowing the world with its proof of concept video, and it will be releasing just a year after it’s announcement.

If you don’t know what Leap is, where have you been? It’s basically a smaller bar controller that hooks up to your PC, tracking your hand motions over it very, very precisely. This allows you to effectively control your computer all Minority Report style, and while that my not sound all that new the proof of concept video did a good job of showing just how you can use the thing. Hell, they even showed off someone playing Half-Life with the controller.

Yesterday the company behind Leap Motion announced that the Leap Controller would be releasing this May. Now, that’s a release in the United States, but the company is accepting orders on their site and other online retailers, meaning you could possibly get it just as soon as everyone else. Customers who pre-ordered the Leap before it went into production will receive preference when it comes to shipping, which is expected to being on the 13th of May.

But just how much does something like this cost? Not that much apparently, with Amazon listing the Leap at $79, which converts to around R700.00. If you want to compare that to something, just think about the price for a Dualshock 3 controller, which used to actually be more expensive. Leap Motion also announced that a Leap app-store, Airspace, will launch at the same time as the controller, giving customers a host of Leap-friendly apps to play around with straight out of the box. These include various drawing programs such as Coral.

The Leap Controller will be compatible with PC and Mac at launch, so don’t worry about being left out of you’re thinking of getting one imported. Now, if you excuse me, I’m off to order my Leap.
