Blink Feed-like
Facebook is planning to announce a custom version of Android that will tie in its social services through the entire OS, the Wall Street Journal reports. The announcement is expected at the social network's 4 April event.
The Facebook-focused version of Android will replace the home screen on a user's Android device to keep them queued on their friends social happenings (it sounds like HTC's Blink Feed).?The New York Times adds?Facebook will tie in its services into the camera and messaging apps -- similar to how Google already does within Android.
If leaks out of EvLeaks are to be believed, Facebook and HTC have partnered for a handset that will be announced, dubbed the HTC Myst. The Myst has already rolled through the FCC for approval with AT&T bands.
The Myst is said to offer mid-range specs, with a 1.5GHz Snapdragon dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage (no microSD expansion), 5-megapixel rear-camera, 1.6-megapixel front-camera, LTE and the latest version of Jelly Bean, falling under a 4.3-inch display.
Both New York Times and Wall Street Journal indicate the skinned version of Android will be present on more devices than just the HTC Myst.
We'll be covering the latest on 4 April. Stay tuned!
