Well this just feels like a slap in the face to those few who have tried to stay loyal to the struggling PS Vita. More specifically, me. If a recent patent application is to be believed, Sony could be preparing to release a new version of the PS Vita.
The patent, filed last year but only published this month, details a Vita with additional HDMI and USB ports. So not a completely new device, but still a shocker when you consider how bad the first iteration is doing. Although Sony has declined to comment on the patent, many rumours are already circling about the possibility of the new device being unveiled at the Sony event scheduled for the 20th of February, which is believed to be the announcement of the PS4.
So here’s my little two cents to whoever is in charge of Sony's handheld department. The world doesn’t need a new Vita with fancy new ports. The reason the device isn’t selling isn’t because it doesn’t have an HDMI port. It’s because there’s hardly any software and third-party support for the damn thing. Sort that out first, then we can talk about trying to sell more new units.
Wouldn’t it just be utterly hilarious if this is the big reveal Sony is teasing, and not the PS4. Wouldn’t the just be something?
