The PS4 Could Be Cheaper At Launch Than The PS3

While we’re all gearing up for the probably reveal of the Playstation 4 in just over a day, let’s look back at some of the mistakes Sony made with the last console generation. Namely, two very big mistakes. Firstly was giving Microsoft a year’s head start, which doesn’t seem to be an issue this time around. The second, and probably the most obvious reason for the PS3′s very slow start, was the price of the console at launch. It was absurdly expensive, especially locally, but if a recent report by Britain’s The TImes is to be believed, that might be changing too.

According to their report, the PS4 might be launching at around the £300 mark, making the PS4 a whole £100 cheaper than the PS3 at launch. There’s no really point in converting those prices because we never get straight conversions here, but if that price is indeed correct then we could be looking at a 25% discount on the new PS4, which is rather significant.

But then again, it’s just a rumour from now and despite the fact that Sony will probably announce the console at their event tomorrow I highly doubt they’ll have a price to announce as well. A cheaper price would make sense though, especially if Microsoft is planning to release their next-gen console at around the same time as the PS4.
