Apparently there’s a Star Trek game coming out this year that I wasn’t aware of. Well, since I don’t like being out of the gaming loop, I immediately took to finding out more about it.
It’s simply titled Star Trek, and it will be a third person action adventure game. It’s currently in development over at Digital Extremes and it will be jointly published by Namco Bandai Games and Paramount Digital Entertainment, set for release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 26.
The game will be a single-player action-focused game with some cooperative elements in it, allowing two players to take control of Kirk and Spock. Digital Extremes’ Steve Cinclair described the game’s genre as being a “bro-op”, whatever that means. While the game won’t let players switch between Kirk and Spock during any given chapter, it will allow for drop-in co-op.
The developers tried to differentiate the two lead characters in the sense that Kirk is more of your typical soldier while Spock has stealth abilities and can use his Vulcan nerve pinch and mind meld, if you understand Star Trek jargon. They’ll both have unique weapons as well, and players will be able to gain experience to unlock extra weapon functions.
For a brief overview of the story, Kirk and Spock will face up against The Gorn, who are attacking the New Vulcan colony. That’s about it. Hey when I said “brief” I meant it.
