It’s not exactly the news you want to hear in the morning, especially if you’re an owner of Sony’s rather disappointing flagship handheld. Irrational Games’ Ken Levine has once again shattered dreams of BioShock on the PlayStation Vita, saying that the studio hasn’t even started on development. However, it’s not through a lack of interest in the project.
Instead, Irrational Games just doesn’t have the funding from publisher 2K to start this ambitious title. In a recent interview, Levine explained that stalled business arrangements are the reason for the game’s delay in development.
“As I said before, that’s sort of out of my hands right now. That’s with the business guys…negotiating that business deal and trying to make that work for both sides. I’ve got my fingers crossed that that’s going to happen because it’s something I want to do, but until somebody starts signing the checks, there’s nothing I can do.”
He also stressed that Irrational Games can’t just start the project whenever they want, saying that they still work for 2K.
“At the end of the day, I work for Take-Two and if we were to do a game, they need to be able to fund that development, and they need to make sure they have a deal in place that makes sense for them and makes sense for Sony,” he added. “It has to work for [Take-Two] financially, it has to work for Sony financially…and hopefully it will come to fruition.”
More collars and ties getting in the way of creative freedom it seems. More importantly, it’s getting in the way of a possibly incredible Vita title, which the handheld is sorely lacking. Come on 2K, just make our day and approve the damn project.
